2008 Ethics in Business Awards Winners

GREEN BAY, WI - American Foundation of Counseling Services is pleased to announce the winners of the 2008 Ethics in Business Awards. More than sixty individuals and companies were nominated for the three awards. Award criteria included demonstrating both business excellence and the highest standards of such values as civic and social responsibility, integrity, and ethical conduct.

ASPIRO will be presented with an award in the not-for-profit category. ASPIRO is a community rehabilitation program currently assisting more than 1,800 individuals and their families in the Green Bay area. ASPIRO creates opportunities for people with disabilities to reach goals and achieve independence through their more than 10 programs from birth through adulthood. The exceptional outcomes ASPIRO achieves for its clients, and its leadership in the areas of education and public policy advocacy were what led to the organization being selected.

Arketype will be presented with an award in the business category. Arketype is a marketing communications firm offering full-service capabilities ranging from print and television advertising, to video production, web development, dynamic multimedia and animation. Arketype has a strong commitment to community outreach, the environment, and public service. 20% of each employee's work time is to be used for community service, with only 80% dedicated to billable work. Mark Skogen, president and co-owner of Festival Foods, will be presented with an award in the individual category. Festival Foods has twelve stores across Wisconsin, and employs over 3,000 full and part-time associates. Skogen was recognized for his extensive community involvement, both personally and in his corporate role, together with his servant leadership philosophy. The awards will be presented at a luncheon event on Thursday, November 13 at the KI Convention Center in Green Bay. The awards luncheon will be held from 11:00 a.m. - 1:10 p.m., and tickets are available for $45 per person or $400 for a table of ten. The keynote speaker for the event will be Gayle Kosterman, Executive Vice President Worldwide Human Resources for SC Johnson & Son, Inc. Bill Jartz , WBAY-TV anchorperson, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Green Bay Packaging will serve as Presenting Sponsor of the event. American Foundation of Counseling Services (AFCS) founded and is hosting the Ethics in Business Awards to foster a climate of ethical integrity in northeast Wisconsin, to heighten awareness of the AFCS within the business community, and to raise funds for the AFCS's healing work.

St. Norbert College CEO Roundtable to be held September 17th from 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at St. Norbert College. John Ackerman, Chairman Emeritus of Public Service Company of New Mexico will present "Ethical Choices in Organizations: What's the Problem." Mr. Ackerman will also hold an extended workshop from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m on the topic of integrating ethics into organizational culture. Good Ethics Day proclaimed. Brown County Executive Tom Hinz and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt will proclaim November 13, 2008 as the first annual Good Ethics Day prior to the Mayor's Forum that will take place on this day.

'Ethics in Business Awards

Mayor's forum: Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt will host a forum concerning ethics in government and will invite 27 student representatives from De Pere, Ashwaubenon and Green Bay. For information, contact Scott Matejoy at (920) 448-3005.

Good Ethics Day: Brown County Executive Tom Hinz and Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt will proclaim Thursday as the first Good Ethics Day prior to the Mayor's Forum.

Children's story time: Barnes and Noble in Green Bay will sponsor an Ethics for Children story time at 10 a.m. today and Thursday at 2498 S. Oneida St. in Ashwaubenon. The title of the event is: "What do you stand for?" This event is for preschool children and is free and open to the public.

Junior Achievement event: "Excellence through Ethics, Ethics in Action Day" is sponsored Thursday by UnitedHealthcare. Executives across the state will convey the message with young people that responsible, ethical behavior is the cornerstone of the American free enterprise system. In Green Bay, local chief executive officers will visit high school classrooms to speak to students about ethics in the workplace. American Foundation of Counseling Services was established in 1965 by George Kress and Norman Vincent Peale with the original goal of providing training and counseling education to clergy and congregations in northeast Wisconsin. Today, the AFCS provides outpatient counseling to all individuals, regardless of their insurance coverage or ability to pay. The organization is also a state-licensed child placing agency, providing intensive out of home placement for children that have been victims of abuse or neglect or who have delinquency issues. The AFCS continues to work closely with the faith community in the area by providing pastor leadership groups, premarital counseling workshops, marriage enrichment seminars, and individual consultation to clergy and church leadership teams.
